In a weird way, Strikeforce's agreement to purchase ProElite's assets actually benefits Affliction more than anyone else. When EliteXC dropped dead following the Kimbo nightmare, it was a huge blow to Affliction. They had recently partnered with EliteXC to feature the Arlovski/Nelson fight on the October 4th card. They also had eight hundred Fedor commercials during the telecast. It was great exposure for a promotion who needed a way into the mainstream. Then ProElite collapsed.
Well, now Strikeforce has emerged from the wreckage with a TV deal and Affliction has a new path to a mainstream audience. It makes perfect sense. Affliction gives them two of their fighters (also agrees to advertise during the show) and Strikeforce gives them exposure via their Showtime/CBS deal. For Strikeforce it's a no-brainer. They don't even have to foot the bill for Affliction's expensive fighters.
It also opens the door to a possible fight between Tito Ortiz and Frank Shamrock, which would do well on TV or PPV.
